Bought this monitor solely because it was a size upgrade from a 19″ LCD widescreen, mainly to watch live TV a few feet away from the computer desk on a futon in the back room (read: not for primary DVD or TV viewing). This computer is our main desktop machine, but we don’t do any video editing or photo-retouching on it, just general home office work, so as long as it was a bigger screen from a known-name company for cheap, it fit the bill. The fact of it being HD spec was outside the main objective of this purchase. I’m hooked up DVI and have not used the built-in speakers – probably never will, so I can’t comment on analog VGA or audio performance.

If you’re looking for a monitor to replace what you have, this is a great deal. The only real reservation about it is that there is quite a bit of blue-light bleed all around my monitor, but mainly along the bottom where the blue power LED is. Dunno if the blue halo around the screen is from this LED or not, as there’s no way in the screen menus to turn off the LED itself without turning off the screen (which is logicial).

Basically: image is sharp (people who report fuzzy fonts don’t understand flatscreen monitors have a native resolution, and running the screen at anything other than it’s native resolution will degrade image quality), the screen is full-width (other reviews here of Yahoo and other websites not using the whole width of the screen is down to the people who program that specific webpage – it has nothing to do with the function or resolution of the monitor), and the colors/contrast are pretty good (save the extra blue bleeding). For general purpose use, this is monitor is a bargain. If you want to watch TV or DVDs more primarily on your computer, or if you’re going to be doing video or picture editing, spend the extra $40-60 and get the Viewsonic LED (not LCD) 24″ version of this monitor, also sold here on Amazon or other online retailers, to avoid the blue halo Viewsonic VX2450WM-LED 24-Inch (23.6-Inch Vis) Widescreen LED Monitor with Full HD 1080p and Speakers – Black.

I blew a ridiculous amount of time listening to them in the store, reading reviews and what not and it never really helped me decide. I ended up buying all 3 and hooking them up so I could test drive them. Then returned the ones I didn’t keep. Hopefully someone in the same situation I was in will benefit from my review. If you can’t decide I recommend buying the ones you can’t decide between and test them yourself.

SPEAKERS:
Klipsch Promedia 2.1, Logitech z-2300, Bose Companion 3

BACKGROUND:
Previous Speakers- Creative 6.1, think they were the original inspires.
Sound Card- Creative x-fi
Primary use- Gaming with limited music
Volume- maybe max out around 10%. Live in multifamily complex and don’t need a lease breaker to live up to its name.
Ear quality- I’m no sound engineer so all references to quality of sound are just what MY ears heard.

6.1 V 2.1:
You will not find any 2.1 system that rivals even a cheap 5.1 or 6.1 set. No way around that. In downgrading you are compromising from the start. If you have the space/cash/mounting locations go with 5.1 or higher.

SOUND QUALITY:
The Klipsch had the best overall performance when it came to sound. Second was Bose and third was Logitech.

I was not at all impressed with the Logitechs. They had a nice booming sound but no matter how much I fiddled with the EQ could I get a clean consistent sound across the board. Highs sounded watered down, Mids sounded muted and the Lows were…booming in a good way. Granted I’m sure this had a lot to do with the fact that I wasn’t turning them up very loud. When I cranked them up they sounded much better but that’s not the situation I needed them for. If you are throwing a block party the sound quality might be great.

The Klipsch definitely had the best overall sound. It seemed to have a little trouble with definition on the highs and the extreme lows but far out did the other two with the mids and the lows. When I say trouble I mean nothing noticeable if you didn’t have multiple speakers hooked up at the same time. This could once again be attributed to the fact that I’m running them at such a low volume. As far as the extreme lows, I don’t think either of the other two systems even had those lows to listen too.

The Bose handled the highs with crystal clarity. They do have the “tin can” effect that other reviewers have mentioned but adjustment of the EQ was able to compensate for that. The mids had to be corrected with the EQ but once setup right they were adequate, nothing to write home about, but better then the Logitech and not as good as the Klipsch. The lows thumped nicely and seemed to fit well but on extreme lows it seemed to be more of a single rumble as opposed to individual sounds.

REAL ESTATE:
The Bose significantly outshine the other two sets when it comes to desk real estate. The footprint of each satellite is about 2.5×2.5 inches. Headphones might take up less space. The Logitechs and the Klipsch take up about the same amount of space on the desk. Slightly larger than your average desktop speaker but not so large that you can’t fit them on the desk.

CONTROLS:
All three sets had the same set of controls and inputs on them, namely bass, volume, and a miniplug out or two.

I preferred the Bose when it came to the controls. The little wired remote puck thing works excellently and sticks to the spot you put it. The volume control consists of turning the outside of the puck and works excellently. One added feature is the top of the puck is a touch activated mute button. Useless really since the volume is so easy to adjust but nice all the same. The bass control for the Bose is located on the back of the sub near the top. The sub sits under my desk so it’s easy enough to adjust by just reaching behind it from the top and turning the knob.

Second would be the Logitech set. They also have a wired remote similar to the bose. Has a couple knobs on it a large (not as large as the bose puck) one for volume and smaller one for bass. They seemed to turn smoothly and work great. The one thing I didn’t like about the Logitech remote was that it was very light and didn’t really stay where you put it. Some double side tape or a rubber pad would easily fix that.

This is one spot where the Klipsch comes in last. I read that the controller could be removed from the speaker but didn’t see an easy way to do it and didn’t want to muck them up since I would be returning 2 of the 3 systems. The Klipsch controls are located on the right speaker similar to your normal OEM speakers. There is a volume and bass knob. The volume knob didn’t seem as smooth as the other two systems and tended to jump as opposed to smoothly increase and decrease the volume. This might just be that it’s a small knob and harder to make precision changes.

The power button is never a concern of mine because I leave everything on all the time but for those that it is an issue: Logitech had a power switch on the sub and “sleep” button on the remote. Both the klipsch and the bose have the power switches on the back of the sub. None of the power switches on the back of the subs are easy to get to or locate so if you can handle just putting it in sleep mode I’d recommend the Logitech.

BUILD QUALITY:
I don’t mean the build of the actual cones but of the housings, stands, etc. I don’t know enough about construction of or speaker materials to make a judgment on the cones and drivers.

I think the Bose probably won in this category with the Logitech coming in second and the Klipsch bringing up the rear.

Both the Bose and Logitech went together well and everything fit tight. Everything seemed to be appropriately built with acceptable tolerances in terms of stands and housings. The Logitech’s satellites were mostly plastic with cloth speaker grilles metal grilles on the sub. The sub was particle board I’m assuming with a metal grille. The Bose satellites were all metal including stands and grilles. The sub was particle board I’m assuming with a metal grille. Moving the speakers around and doing whatever over the course of testing them seemed to have no side effect on the operation of these two sets. Everything on each system seemed to use a heavy enough gauged wire that I was not concerned with damaging them as I yanked them through the rats nest behind my desk.

The Klipsch fell short on the build quality. They used comparable materials as the previous two, plastic satellites with cloth grilles and what I’m assuming is a particle board sub with a metal grille. The stands for the satellites were cockeyed causing the speakers to lean at some odd angles. Nothing that your average person would notice but someone in QC should have caught that. The little ps2 looking cable that connects the controller to the sub didn’t fit securely or snap into the sub. Is to be expected of this style cable but on the other two systems I didn’t have any concern if it connected appropriately. After initial setup of the speakers the left satellite went out on me and I had to jiggle/turn the miniplug plugged into the back of it. This is nothing new to miniplugs but I would have liked to have had the system setup for a good year before I had to start jiggling stuff. None of these matters are real deal breakers but I noticed no problems with the other two systems. It causes me to question what else might not be done as right as it should be done.

One thing nice about the Klipsch is that the connections for the satellites are normal speaker wire with a miniplug on the end. Should be fairly easy to rig up your own connectors if the supplied separation distance isn’t enough for your needs.

CONCLUSION:
If you want the best sound you can find, go with the Klipsch hands down. If size is your concern go with the Bose. Most other items noted are personal taste and opinion so you can make your judgments of off my previous information.

WHAT’D I KEEP?:
I kept the Bose. They look incredible, save my desk space well and at low volumes with an adjusted EQ they seem to sound good enough to do the job. I love the puck controller as well. I know many people dislike Bose but I think they have a nice product in the Companion 3′s. It should probably be priced between $75 and $150 but an extra $100 spaced over an estimated 5 years of use is only $20 a year.

UPDATE 6-15-12
Nearing the 5yr mark with these things. They are still in pristine condition (well they have some dust on them) and operate and sound exactly as the day I bought them. The puck works fine, no shorts or fiddling with loose wires or anything of that nature. They’re apparently built to last better than most things you can buy these days. I ended up find another set of them at a garage sale for a downright vulgar steal so now I have a set on both of my PCs. I still highly recommend them. Taking into consideration the quality and longevity of them I feel the price, while still too high, is reasonable. Considering the price of a PC and the fact you have to replace it every 2-5 years, these things are a steal.

I have had the unit in my 2005 f150 for about 3 weeks now. I have not had any problems with it at all. Very glad I bought this radio.

I have used the bluetooth link to connect to my android phone for playing music from both pandora and from the google music service. Both have played very well with no static that I have heard. When I get into my truck the phone and radio will get a bluetooth connection within 10 seconds and it will start playing over bluetooth whatever the last thing I was playing from my phone.

Also have used the usb drive to play music that I have downloaded. Have about 5 gigs of music on it. This does take about 30 seconds to access the music when you turn to the usb drive. So if you want to jump from the usb drive to radio and back again it does take it about 30 seconds to access and read the drive. After it has accessed the drive you can pick and choose whatever music you want through the search menu by the artist name, then which album, then to which song. When doing this it will play the music with no hesitating when playing whatever song you pick. However it does not show the album art when playing from a usb drive.

The HD radio sounds great on whatever channel you are listening too, but the hd stations do come in with a better sound. I have not done a trip far enough out of the city to see how it will work in a rual area with low radio signal strength so can not say yet how good it picks up in that situation. I will try to remember to see how this works on my next trip to see family out in the country.

I do not have either an ipod or an iphone so I can not say how well the built in pandora works or the ipod music playing capabilities. The back up camera that I have ordered has not came in yet so I have not installed it, so cannot say how well that will work either.

So to wrap up this has been a very good buy and have been enjoying this radio.

I bought this speaker because I wanted to play music from my iPhone wirelessly while retaining high quality sound. In that respect, I am not disappointed as the sound is very rich with plenty of bass and clear mids/highs. I was concerned that the bluetooth transmission would introduce artifacts/digital distortion, but I can’t hear any.

My only complaint is the iPhone pairing which can be a bit finicky, especially when you switch between different iPhones. It will either take a few seconds for the music to start or you will need to press the connect/reset buttons.

I needed a pair of 24″ monitors to work from home more efficiently. I had a smaller 20″ LCD + my laptop screen, but that just didn’t cut it. I have dual 24″ at work, and needed to get the same for the house to make life easier when working from home without breaking the bank. These fit the bill – Out of the box these monitors are a little on the bright side with factory settings. I had to turn down the contrast(to 40) and brightness (to 50) to get the windows 7 colors to look more natural/less washed out. Compared to my Dell work monitors these are very similar in screen quality, at least to my eye. At home (when I’m not working) I do mostly web surfing, some programming, a little youtube, etc. For what I do for work, as well as home entertainment, these monitors work just fine.

I view these mostly straight on, and from where I sit, the screens are evenly lit. Sitting any more than about 15 degrees off center, you can start to see the screen change. I do not use the speakers so have nothing to say about them. Not a single dead pixel is an added plus.

All in all, these are simple monitors that don’t break the bank, but provide plenty of screen real estate in a reasonable footprint. I find that these help to reduce the eye strain I had been dealing with using the smaller 20″ + laptop monitors.

Also, I got these on sale – They were just shy of a buck forty each with free shipping, so the price was right.

Great deal from Amazon. (270 USD) with Amazon prime shipping. A lot cheaper compared with the other expensive ones in this tough economy.

This one is a new version, March 2009 release.

1. In-Built Bluetooth works fine and plays music directly from Iphone without having to connect any wires to it. No hissing nor static noise in the back ground. Audio from Bluetooth is crystal clear.
2. Rear view camera(bought a 40 USD camera from Amazon and hooked it up by myself), DVD player, FM(16 presets), all works as advertised.
3. Cheaper (270 USD) when compared to Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD with Blue tooth which comes to atleast 420 USD.(with the steering wheel interface)
4. I got Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD (just for comparison) and this unit and tried both of them in my Honda Pilot to check how it works and did not see any difference in quality.
5. Bought a soldering Iron(15 USD) and soldered all the wires by myself. (saved 60 USD in installation charges).Instruction manual provided is more than sufficient to do it.
6. Prompt customer support via email when you register in their website.

I hope the quality of this product lasts for a long time.

I’ve had this monitor for a few days. My first impressions are very good. Screen is great with no dead pixels and even lighting.

Cons (and these I expected):
Stand isn’t adjustable vertically
Speakers sound terrible. (tinny, which is to be expected on a monitor this skinny)

There’s a gotcha I experienced hooking up my Macbook Pro via a Display Port to HDMI adapter. At first, choosing the 1080p resolution produces an image that’s too large for the screen – that is the edges are chopped off. Adjusting the under/overscan slider makes it fit, but at the expense of being fuzzy. The solution is in the monitor’s setting, under input select, each HDMI input has an AV/PC setting. Mine were set to AV by default. Switching that to PC made the image fit perfectly with no fuzzies.

I must have looked at the various projectors on Amazon a thousand times. I wanted one that I could use to watch movies, and use to play games with my PS3. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money but all the projectors that said home theater were expensive starting at about $700 and the 1080p were starting higher than that. I kept seeing the rave reviews for this projector and the model below it (the cheaper one has no HDMI connection). However, I still did not like that this model was classified as a data projector for presentations not what I wanted. I kept thinking this was for a home setup not for a classroom or office, so the projector i need has to say it is for a home theater for home use. I reread the Amazon reviews again and I decided to go for it and get the View Sonic the one I really thought I wanted was the Optoma HD66Optoma HD66 2500ANSI Lumens 4000:1 3D-Ready DLP Home Theater Projector – White (this one was a home theater projector because it said so on the box)it was $250 more. I could have afforded it but didn’t want to spend that much as I was not sure how much I would use a projector, or even like the picture they produced.

I didn’t have much time to think about it because I paid the $3.99 for Amazon Prime service and it came the next day. When it arrived I was convinced that it was not going to be the one for me so it sat there unopened for most of the day. When I did finally open the data projector, It was actually nicer looking than I expected a little bigger and heavier. So I cleared a spot on my Dresser and aimed it at the wall over my Bed this was about 14 to 15 feet. I thought about what to watch on it first, Ah “A Bugs Life” seemed appropriate because this purchase was bugging me with buyers remorse. So I plugged it in didn’t read the instructions just winged it. I hooked my PS3 up to the back with an HDMI connection (the one feature I was happy about on this projector). Then I turned it on and saw the picture, it was fuzzy and not clear like I knew it would be ! It’s going back right now and Im getting the Optoma. I picked up the quick start guide and glanced at it. It said turn the Focus ring to adjust. So I did just that and as i did my jaw hit the floor. I just smiled as I sat there in my fully lit bedroom with the sun pouring in and was stunned the picture was as clear as my Top of the Line Sony Bravia. I was amazed, I had to share this with someone, so I called my neighbor he and his wife came over as they walked into my bedroom they said Wow. So as we watched A Bugs Life I decided to switch off the lights and close the curtains. We all gasped and said WOW! That day my bedroom became my new “Movie Palace and Video Game Wonderland”.

This projector is awesome believe what everyone says. The picture is very clear and vivid with the lights fully on but turn the lights off and you will be blown away, WOW!. There are other projectors that are more expensive with more features but the one I have is perfect and does a great job for what I wanted. One thing I learned with this purchase don’t buy into the hype but trust the people. I did that with this projector and listened to what the people were saying in their reviews and they were right about this product.

I absolutely recommend this projector to any one in the market wanting one. Several of my friends have purchased this model from seeing it at my house and love it as much as I do. I am just careful never to mention the word Data Projector around my Viewsonic PJD5133, because he and I fully believe he is a Home Theater Projector and I want him to keep believing that..

I purchased this monitor because I wanted a 22 inch monitor and I didn’t want to spend more than $200.

Initial impressions.

This thing is light in weight. Very light. I was able to hold the monitor in one hand/arm and use my other hand to set the base and plug in the power and dvi cable without a much strain. The base is made of plastic and feels cheap. That was my first reaction, when I unwrapped the base. Once I had it on the monitor though it did it’s job. This combination though makes the monitor easily wobble if it is not sitting on a sturdy desk/table, keep that in mind. (My desk is very sturdy, so this wasn’t an issue.) It comes with a VGA/DVI cable, which was a pleasant surprise.

I’m a programmer.

This monitor arrived at my place of work and as soon as it came, I immediately replaced one of my monitors and worked the whole day with it. It was easy on the eyes and I could see myself using this as my daily programming monitor. It also made my other Dell monitor look old because this monitor has great contract and was bright. Pictures and text looked great on the screen. At the end of the day I did notice that this monitor gives off very little heat, very nice. Had I based my purchasing decision on this experience, it would have been a keeper.

I’m delving into web/print design.

Here’s where I have an issue with the monitor. I’m working on some website and print designs and I need the colors to reproduce accurately on the screen. I know that all LCD monitors change color saturation/contrast when looking at the monitor at an angle, however, I noticed that when I look at this monitor directly, the color was too washed out, where to me, it didn’t accurately reproduce the color at the angle that it should produce the color contrast/saturation the best (or really close to it). Normally I wouldn’t care for this, but I need the color to look accurate. I played around with the monitor brightness/contrast/color and that didn’t fix the problem. I played around with my NVidia desktop color settings and I couldn’t fix the problem. Lastly I compared this monitor with another 22 inch LCD and it only confirmed my findings.

Conclusion.

If you are considering purchasing this monitor for normal use, i.e. web surfing, document editing watching movies, then by all means don’t hesitate to purchase it, it’s a good monitor for the price. As a programmer/normal user, I would give this monitor 4 stars. As a web/print designer, I would give this monitor 3 stars. Since I have to use it in designer mode, then I could not keep the monitor, so I returned it.
